ABOUT.
This is Telaroids, inspired by good ole' Asteroids from Atari Corp (see the wikipedia page), except that the playing field is provided by any existing webpage... that makes for several million levels, pretty cool isn't it ?.

The easiest way to play Telaroids on any given webpage is to add the bookmarklet to your favorites.
CONTROLS.
'J' and 'L' keys : rotate ship
'i' : thrust (only if propellant is available)
'S' : shield on (also consumes propellant)
'P' : pause game
'R' : restart game
GAMEPLAY.
GEMS are objects moving freely within the webpage, subject to gravity forces. Gems may appear as stars, forsaken astronauts, or helpless aliens... They must be collected by the ship. Every collected gem increases the propellant level by 5%.

The EXIT PORTAL (teleportation gate) will appear once all the gems have been collected. Hit the portal to complete the level. If the ship's velocity is too high the portal flashes red and it cannot be entered, otherwise it flashes green to indicate proper velocity (Aye, good ole' Lunar Lander, sort of)

The various HTML elements within the webpage are used in different ways:

IMAGES on the webpage are gravity fields, the intensity of which is related to the image size

BUTTON form elements on the webpage are gem generators: they periodically release a new gem which must then be collected, increasing the burden of the player. The rate of release depends upon the length of the button value (text within it)

TEXT fields are areas where the propellant can be replenished. The filling rate depends upon the size of the field

PASSWORD fields give birth to blackholes, which are very massive items, having an overwhelming gravity effect. Blackholes eventually explode, releasing the captured items (ship, asteroids, gems...) with varying velocities

SELECT elements give birth to asteroids, the mass of which depends upon the number of options within the select. Asteroids can only be destroyed by a direct collision with the ship while its shield is enabled (otherwise press 'R' or 'F5' :) )

CHECKBOXES are wormhole singularity mouthes (amazing isn't it) with random destination... use with caution !

Every RADIO BUTTONS group gives birth to an alien flying saucer, which follows strange trajectories, surely driven by unfathomable motives... Direct collision is fatal, except if the shield is on, in which case the alien saucer will lose some amount of energy and eventually explode.

OBJECT (eg embedded FLASH) zones are weird space regions which tend to repel the ship, unless the shield is on

HIDDEN fields transform into hidden gems. Fortunately the shield includes a radar function which makes them flicker. The nearest from the ship, the most visible.

TEXTAREAS are dead zones, where the ship commands (left/right turn, thrust, shield) are temporarily out of order...

IMAGE buttons transform into pulsars, which periodically emit deadly rays, avoid at all costs (the shield is no protection here)

RESET buttons give birth to another kind of alien saucer...

FACTS.
Contrary to the original Asteroids, the ship cannot fire anything against opponents, only the shield can help. Also Telaroids takes place in deep space, so conservation of momentum is in order.

While the shield is on, no propellant can be gathered and no gem can be rescued, and the teleportation gates have no effect.

The size of the browser window can be adjusted while playing (use creatively...).

Press 'R' to restart a level.

The name Telaroids comes from 'tela' which is the latin word for 'web'... also the domain name was free :)
SUPPORT.
Telaroids is 'attention-ware', meaning I kindly request you to spend some time reviewing another production of mine. I am a musician trying to get my music known. The group's named 7BZH, and all the music is available under a Creative Commons license at Jamendo, so please take the time to visit my musician page at Jamendo and to listen to the music, and to pass the buzz along for everybody to get to know it. For those of you wishing to do more, please consider using the donation system on Jamendo, many thanks to the people who have donated already.
Telaroids developed 2008 by François Toutain.
Tested on Internet Explorer 6 & 7 and FireFox 2 & 3, and also tested okay on Google Chrome Beta 0.2... Please report success or failure on any other browser.
The game is much slower on FireFox... this is a known weakness of the browser, see this comparison... unfortunately Telaroids makes a heavy use of arrays
